Mets to bring up Kevin Plawecki and Hansel Robles to replace injured Travis d'Arnaud, Jerry Blevins

NEW YORK — The Mets will call up catcher Kevin Plawecki and relief pitcher Hansel Robles to take the place of their two newly injured players, Travis d'Arnaud and Jerry Blevins.

Blevins fractured his forearm Sunday afternoon after getting hit by a batted ball and d'Arnaud fractured his right hand after getting hit with a 92 mph fastball from Marlins pitcher A.J. Ramos. Both will go on the disabled list.

Plawecki is one of the Mets' top prospects and one of the best catching prospects in baseball. Baseball America and MLB.com ranked him the No. 63 prospect in the sport.

Even before d'Arnaud's injury necessitated his rise to the majors, general manager Sandy Alderson said the catcher was "very close" to being ready.

"We got all the confidence in the world Kevin will do a nice job for us," Alderson said.

Robles is a 24-year-old reliever who reached Triple-A this season. In 7 2/3 innings there, he has not allowed a run and struck out 10. Last year, he was a starter and reliever at Double-A.
