Yamaha not concerned by Moto2 defeat

Yamaha race boss Lin Jarvis has shrugged off defeat to Honda in the race to win the exclusive engine supply deal for the new Moto2 world championship in 2010.

The contract to supply the new 250cc two-stroke replacement class was awarded to Honda during last weekend’s Spanish GP at the Jerez circuit.

Only Honda and Yamaha submitted formal proposals to supply engines to the Moto2 four-stroke 600 class, HRC winning with its bid to unveil a specially tuned CBR600RR motor capable of producing over 150bhp at the crankshaft.

Jarvis told MCN: “It’s fine for us. Both Honda and Yamaha were prepared to support the new class by being willing to supply engines to Moto2.

“We made our proposal based on the capacity of what we could do to provide engines at this late stage to be ready for 2010 and I think Honda made a stronger proposal.

“Maybe Honda had been preparing for it so they are in a position to provide a more performance engine with a complete maintenance package with everything else. So for us that’s fair enough.”
