Wolves 2-2 Leeds United

Danny Batth's first league goal saw Wolves snatch a dramatic late point at Molineux and keep the club just above the Championship's relegation zone.

The defender's 92nd-minute header was a setback for Leeds boss Neil Warnock in his late bid for a play-off place.

An own goal by Lee Peltier had put Wolves in front, only for Leeds to go ahead thanks to goals by Luke Varney and a penalty from Ross McCormack.

But with time ticking down, Batth's late header stole a point for Wolves.

Wolves boss Dean Saunders remains without a win after five games in charge but for much of the second half it appeared the Molineux club were headed for defeat.

It was a typically breathless encounter, but it wasn't until the second half that it sparked into life with a goal from the hosts that owed more to good fortune than design.

It was harsh on Leeds, having largely dominated proceedings, but their captain Peltier turned the ball into his own net to put Wolves in control.

Leeds responded well, levelling thanks to Varney's sweet left-footed strike and snatching the lead when Bakary Sako was adjudged to have hauled down Sam Byram, leaving McCormack to blast home the penalty with 12 minutes remaining.

That looked to be the winner until Batth had the final say deep into injury time.

Wolves manager Dean Saunders: "If you can't defend goal-kicks, long throws and free-kicks then you will concede goals and I have got to do something about it.

"Three managers have got the sack because the team have been conceding goals and I won't be the fourth.

"I have been trying for three weeks to get things done but have not been able to get anyone in that we can afford. It is a necessity now.

"Obviously we haven't won for a long time but it is coming because that is the best we have played."

Leeds manager Neil Warnock: "The frustration for me is that we have just played Cardiff City and Wolves and we should have had six points and I have got one out of both games.

"I want to get into the play-offs and I am disappointed that we are not in the play-offs and games are running out.

"I want to go up. I think I am more frustrated than anybody.

"It is all right for the players; they are all young and they can play for years to come."

    Leeds United whose name should grace the Premiership, however they have a team who are fated to stay in the Championship. The Premiership NEEDS Leeds United back in the big time.

    Shock horror, yet another game passed without 3 points. Thanks Mr. Morgan for sending the club in to a crisis. Looking forward to League One next season, we should be able to win a few games. Oh wait, we said that after relegation last season as well. It's like being back in the 80's.

    I reckon wolves need to sell karl henry, kevin doyle, leigh Griffiths, kevin foley, Jamie o hara, david Edwards and sylvan ebanks blake. then give manager dean saunders money to buy 4 new strikers, 4 new midfielders, 2 new defenders. they must spend 15m on new players and really focus on their way of playing aswell

    Wolves have not improved one iota for Saunders appointment. League One is looking more likely than not.

    Agree with syz9, (no 3). Poor report from the BBC - he\she also can’t count. 1 shot on target for Wolves? What about Doyle's first half shot turned wide, Sako's blistering 2nd half thunderbolt saved by Kenny & a header, also in the 2nd half - couldn't see whose - cleared off the line, leaving aside Batth's header, & since when does a game last 100 mins. PS 2-2 fair, but I fear we're doomed.

    @5 dont take much notice of the BBC match stats quite often it shows teams having 0 shots on target ,yet they have scored a goal, , with the bottom 3 winning yesterday it puts extra pressure on wolves, they could easily be drawn into the relegation places if they dont turn it around soon

    @ 12 & 13. I'm not a Leeds United fan, I follow Chelsea. I just think the EPL would be a better place for having Leeds in it.

    Can't help but think we'll finish bottom and play Walsall and Exeter City next season.
    Can't we go back to the Graham Turner days of playing a sweeper system, fo which Johnson would be ideal. With Zubar sold, Stearman on loan and Elokobi out with a fractured ankle, we have been left with a side of midfield players, 33 of them !
