Jackie Evancho Week declared in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato declared this week Jackie Evancho Week to encourage residents to support the 10-year-old singing sensation competing on "America's Got Talent."

Evancho, a fifth-grader from Richland, will sing one final time Tuesday against three other acts; the show will air from 9 to 10 p.m. on NBC. Part two is scheduled to run from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, when the winner will be announced. The winner receives a $1 million prize.

"With the eyes of the nation on the young, talented Jackie Evancho, she never fails to express the love and pride she has for her hometown," Ravenstahl said in a written statement. "On behalf of Pittsburgh, I would like to thank Jackie for her positive representation of our city and wish her the best of luck Tuesday night."

A banner wishing Evancho good luck was placed on the City-County Building on Grant Street this morning.

"Jackie has shown poise and determination well beyond her years, and her talent is inspirational," Onorato said in a statement.
