PC Release Delay Announcement
Hello Everyone,

Firstly, we’d like to thank everyone’s patience and understanding with the delayed PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA. We have not determined an official PC release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, but we will continue provide the community responsive updates for the release as they emerge.

We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the fans and beta testers for their feedback. We are deeply grateful for all of the constructive criticism and we will take the communities’ critiques to improve our PC porting in the future.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

We would now like to inform you all of what you can expect from us from here on out.

First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
  1. Random crashes
  2. Framerate
  3. Language-related issues

Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.

We have a good understanding of what is currently causing issues 1 and 2 and how to fix them, but because issues 1 and 2 are closely tied to gameplay, we are having trouble solving the issues permanently.

Issue 3 is taking more time than we estimated to fix because we require so much information to adequately understand what exactly is going wrong. Fixes in one area can lead to something breaking in another, and thus we have to take more time to fix these issues.

Resolving Issue 1 and 2 is estimated to take 2 weeks to fix. Once Issue 1 and 2 are fixed, we will proceed with Issue 3.

We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA

I for one appreciate this. Better to have a good stable product than a game with a ton of problems. Looking forward to release.

Nothing wrong with taking the time you need to make it work correctly.

Thank you.
I appreciate the port developers' effort and commitment, and I hope this port can launch or remain with as few issues as possible.

Well, thanks for the update.

Really wish, NISA would give discounts to for the folks who had pre-ordered the game and are willing to wait for the PC version. Other options could be to release DLC for everyone ie soundtrack and few other goodies for everyone who is willing wait.

PS: I double dipped in the PC verison and the PS4 CE version, but I am not openning the other one because I really like YS series.

That is kinda where im at. It sounds like there is at least a month worth of fixes still required. How unplayable was this a couple weeks ago if there is still this much broken.

The communication on the matter was appeciated though as it seems rare these days for devs or pubs to actually acknowledge the mistakes they made. However , this should have been stated at least 2 months ago from the sounds of the issues above.

"We estimate this will take 2 weeks to fix".

But then you still announce the delay 24 hours before release. If it was going to take that long I'm sure you'd have figured it out a bit before to let us know in advance, no?

Still incredibly poor management of this whole project, really. It's sort of sad that Ys' return to PC is bound to be remembered by this enormous disaster you guys are promoting. Sure, it's good the game isn't coming out completely broken, but that doesn't earn you a free pass. The game should never have been this poorly optimized and full of issues by September 12th in the first place. That's what's expected of professionals.

And jesus, people, what's there to be thankful about a company who delayed a game in such fashion? "Thank you for your hard work!". Yeah, thank you for... (not) doing your jobs? "At least they don't want to release a broken game!". Yeah, they bloody hell don't want to -- with refunds and reviews bombing it, they'd have a nice piece of work on their hands to fix later.

The time to be thankful for anything and for having earned good faith is past. I'd be thankful if by September 12th I could've purchased the game, installed it and be playing it alongside the rest of my friends who are on the PS Vita and the PS4. As it was promised to us. From the moment a date is set, the least you expect from a company is to honor it. Instead what we got was a beta that started like 2 weeks before the game was supposed to come out, with rumours of testers saying it ran like absolute crap. Even then, silence was kept til the very very last minute, and then, bam, this crap storm.

The picture this whole thing is painting right now is that the PC port was clearly handled with absolute lack of care and people just winged it, because it's ridiculous to think that a bunch of professionals could be caught this shorthanded a couple days before release with not one, not two, but at least THREE huge issues to solve. Which, as I said before, is a real shame, because Ys had its home on PC for the longest time and NISA's release seemed like a return to form, a new market for PC Ys to shine.

Of course, as harsh as it may sound, in the end I'm still here, waiting, and I'll still purchase the game. But I'm not 'thankful' for anything. I'm only doing it because it's the only way I get to experience Ys VIII. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm another one in the camp that's wishing NISA never again gets their hands on this IP, because unlike Falcom, your job is one that can be done by many other companies. And I'll try to make myself as loud as possible to ensure that the fact you dropped the ball is well known.

Oh boy you must have kept that in a for a while. It's amazing how you can type all of that and how I struggle getting to 3 paragraphs when im doing an essay lmao. I don't mean to be rude, but don't you have any other games to play? I don't think its entirely their fault, maybe the publisher wanted the PC release date to coincide with the console date. Despite that more time was put into the console versions than the PC ones.

No, I actually don't. I don't play a lot of games anymore as I have other priorities in life such as work, a relationship and other things. But I've been an Ys fan for a long time and it's basically my favourite series. I've been looking forward to this game, and been having a particularly bad week. You can imagine it didn't help any when I saw the news about this come up and what I thought would help me catch a break turned out to be yet another disappointment in an already rough period.

And honestly, it's not about having other things to play. Even if I'd been interested in playing anything else other than Ys VIII right now, it really doesn't matter, does it? We're all paying customers, I think it's fair -- and adviseable, even, for people to be vocal about issues that bother them. No need to be disrespectful or offend anyone, but make your voice heard. Maybe it won't change anything, rather, it most actually won't, but at least I hope the feedback can be used by the company to actually improve in the future, should they (god forbid, really!) get their hands on any other Ys/Falcom games eventually.

Good luck with the fixes. Plenty of us will continue to wait. Just make sure you deliver a stable and good product.

better send everyone away and hire people who wanted to work. Postponing play in less than 12 hours is amateurish
