Al Habsi will provide competition and cover for Chris Kirkland
Wigan Athletic have signed Oman international keeper Ali Al Habsi on a season-long loan from Bolton.
Al Habsi had limited opportunities at the Reebok Stadium but did impress when handed a run in the side which competed in the Uefa Cup in the 2007/08 season.
And Latics boss Roberto Martinez is convinced the 28-year-old can challenge established number one Chris Kirkland.
"We need competition in all departments and Ali will do that. We are delighted to welcome him," said Martinez.
"He has a terrific attitude to the game and after four years in England knows all about the Premier League."
The Muscat-born keeper first made his name in Europe at Lyn Oslo in Norway, and has appeared 70 times for his country.
Wigan, who released keepers Richard Kingson and Vladimir Stojkovic over the summer, open their Premier League campaign at home to promoted side Blackpool on 14 August.
