Irish admit U21 blunder
Celtic's Liam Miller was captain of the Irish Under-21 side which beat Albania 2-1
Liam Millar played against Albania when he was actually suspended

The Republic of Ireland's Under-21 team could lose the points from their 2-1 win over Albania because they played a suspended player.

The Football Association of Ireland have admitted Celtic midfielder Liam Miller should not have played in the game and have written to Uefa apologising for their error.

Miller had been booked twice in earlier Under-21 European Championship qualifiers, at home to Switzerland in October 2002 and then in the away game against Albania in April.

He captained the Irish when they beat Albania in Dublin on Friday 6 June, the Republic's only win in their European qualifying group to date. Manager Don Givens was unaware Miller should not have been included because of a one-match ban.

The Irish Under-21s play Georgia at Buckley Park in Kilkenny on Tuesday (1930 BST) and, at Uefa's request, Miller has been omitted.

Goalkeeper Graham Stack will not be able to play as he has a throat infection which means Dan Connor, who has just moved from Peterborough to Waterford, will win his first cap.

Midfielder Andy Reid of Nottingham Forest is doubtful with a foot injury.
