Sheff Wed 2-1 Bradford
Two-goal Gerald Sibon eased the pressure on boss Terry Yorath as 10-man Wednesday stormed back to win a typically rumbunctious Yorkshire derby. Sibon stepped up to convert from the penalty spot in the 85th minute to give Wednesday their second Nationwide League win of the season. Sibon fired Wednesday into a deserved lead in the 33rd minute. But under-fire Yorath, hoping to avoid a fifth successive defeat was dealt a double blow just before half-time. Defender Danny Maddix was sent off for his second bookable offence after a challenge on Michael Proctor sparking trouble on the pitch and in the stands. Minutes later, Stephen Warnock equalised for the Bantams, shooting home from 18 yards after Wednesday had failed to clear. Finnish striker Shefki Kuqi, made a good start for Wednesday, hitting the bar after five minutes with a header. Wednesday began well, with Simon Donnelly also going close early on. City had their first shot on target on 22 minutes, Gus Uhlenbeek drilling a 20-yarder wide. The Owls' opener came courtesy of Sibon's powerful low shot, the Dutchman's second league goal of the season. But City's equaliser renewed the visitors' confidence and the Bantams were unlucky not to take the lead early in the second half when Owls keeper Kevin Pressman brilliantly tipped Andy Gray's rocket over the crossbar. Clear-cut chances dried up at both ends in the second period, but 10-man Wednesday came back into the game. Mark Bower blocked Kuqi's goalbound 20-yarder and from the Finnish striker saw another shot parried by Banks. Then Sibon's late spot kick won the game, to the delight of the Hillsborough faithful.
