Gascoigne disputes drink claims Gascoigne arrested over assault

Gascoigne, 38, was relieved of his duties on Monday after claims from club owner Imraan Ladak over his conduct.

Ladak said the former England international was drinking too much, but Gascoigne hit back, accusing Ladak of interfering with team affairs.

"I have never been left alone to do my job as manager," said Gascoigne.

"The chairman wants to sack me but I said I will never walk away from Kettering Town. I will fight all the way. I am now looking to buy the football club.

"I have spoken to top professionals in the game and they have said I should have walked away weeks ago.

"I did not do that - I got my head down and worked hard, and I will continue to stick in there until I achieve my goal.

"If the fans want to get rid of me I will take that on board. I have worked hard in the last five weeks and have not been paid by the club.

"I believe in the town and the potential the club has and I believe we have made huge strides forward in the past few weeks.

"But unfortunately the situation has become untenable and we will look to find a solution to the issues."

Ladak says he will never sell the club and instead was concentrating on the future under Wilson's management.

"We are delighted to confirm that Kevin Wilson has accepted our offer to rejoin Kettering Town Football Club as manager," added Ladak.

"This position is for a period of three years and will commence immediately.

"I'll tell you this now, I would not sell Kettering Town FC for £100m of Roman Abramovich's money.

Wilson originally left the Conference North club after rejecting the role as director of football when Gascoigne was installed as manager in October.

Former Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio midfielder Gascoigne, who won 57 caps for his country, was in charge of the Poppies for six league matches - winning two, drawing two and losing two.

His first game in charge was a 1-0 league win over Droylsden quickly followed by a 3-1 home defeat by Stevenage Borough in the first round of the FA Cup.

His reign ended after Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by Barrow, which left the club in sixth place in the table.
