Type Locality: Malwala, Rathnapura, Sri Lanka
The Cherry Barb (Puntius titteya), is a very beautiful, small barb with a relatively compressed body. The male has a reddish color and the female is fawn-colored. This species is a prohibited freshwater fish species for export according to the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance Act (Amendment Act. No.22 of 2009).
