About the author (2009)

Kären M. Hess holds a Ph.D. in English and in instructional design from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in criminal justice from Pacific Western University. She is a longtime and prolific author in Criminal Justice with a number of bestsellers across the curriculum. Christine Hess Orthmann holds an M.S. in Oceanography and Coastal Zone Management from Nova Southeastern University, having completed her thesis on a topic relevant to environmental crime, and is currently working toward a Master of Science in Criminal Justice through the University of Cincinnati. She is a reserve officer with the Rosemount (Minnesota) Police Department.
