Final Fantasy Memorable Moments

Aeris should stay dead. However devastating the scene might be for those gamers that keep their heart sown to their sleeves, it is a microcosm of the entire Final Fantasy series, which has won over a world of fans with its knack for striking graphics and affecting stories. So, be thankful Cloud didn?t use a Phoenix Down to revive her. With a Zombie Aeris we would have never experienced one of the greatest moments in game history. Let?s take a look at the other greatest moment in Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII
Game: Final Fantasy VII
Moment: Sephiroth kills Aeris
Why it's Memorable: Though not the first game to kill off a major character, Final Fantasy VII took it to a whole new level. Never before had a character of this significance to the story been killed off in such a fashion. At the point in the story where her death took place, Aeris was a very important and useful character who was also deeply engaged in the underlying plot arc. For her to die came entirely out of left field and, because of this, instantly propelled the emotional response of the game to new heights. Aeris's death was also a shocker in how it was depicted. For a game to display in full 3D the death of a character, let alone a female character, was unheard of at the time that Final Fantasy VII was released. For this reason, the death of Aeris has become almost synonymous with Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X
Game: Final Fantasy X
Moment: Jecht is Sin
Why it's Memorable: Throughout the entire game of Final Fantasy X, Tidus and crew were trying to put a stop to Sin. Then, you find out that Sin is actually Jecht, Tidus's long gone father. This tossed players on their heads, as the entire game they had wondered, "what happened to Jecht and why did he abandon Tidus?" The fact that Jecht was Sin answered both of these questions and left players with a lasting impression of the complexities of this father-son relationship.

Final Fantasy IV

Final Fantasy IV
Game: Final Fantasy IV
Moment: Golbez is Cecil's brother
Why it's Memorable: Long before the twist of Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy IV had its own "my enemy is not who I believe" moment. Unbeknownst to both parties, Cecil – the valiant Paladin trying to save his country – and Golbez – the powerful warrior with a heart of rage and greed – were brothers. This revelation came late in the story, when both were on the Moon, but proved to be a truly climatic scene that had players rethinking the entire storyline.

Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy VIII
Game: Final Fantasy VIII
Moment: Squall creates the entire timeline
Why it's Memorable: Squall is a hard character to picture creating an entire sequence of events, but in Final Fantasy VIII he did just that. After defeating Ultimecia, Squall gets thrust into an out of control time stream and is plopped into the orphanage he grew up in. There, he meets Edea – long before she is the evil sorceress the player has come to know – and gives her the ideas for Garden and SeeD; which he will later come to be important to him. By doing this, he not only created a time loop, but also started the events that eventually lead to Final Fantasy VIII's beginning.
