Free In-town Check-in Service

For a seamless start to your journey, starting from 6 June 2024, Airport Express passengers can use the In-town Check-in service offered by the specified airlines at Hong Kong or Kowloon Station during the service hours listed below. This service is only applicable to flights operated by the specified airlines (not applicable to codeshare flights operated by other airlines) and is only available to passengers holding valid electronic travel documents#. For all other passengers, please proceed to the airport for check-in.

+The service hours of airlines may vary depending on their flight schedules, and you are advised to contact your airline for updated information.

Passengers with valid electronic travel documents can check-in^ as early as one full day in advance* and up to 90 minutes before their scheduled flight departure time during the service hours. Passengers must use an Octopus or an Airport Express ticket to enter the In-town Check-in area. The full fare will be deducted at the In-town Check-in entry gate, with no further charges made at the platform entry gate. (For Octopus users, the same Octopus must be used to enter the In-town Check-in area and the platform, and during this period, there should not be more than 9 transaction records on the Octopus.)

Passengers can save time by using the Smart Check-in Kiosks1 in the In-town Check-In area to check-in, and collect their boarding passes and luggage tags. After completing the check-in process with the kiosks, passengers can proceed to the Self Bag Drop Counters2 to drop off their baggage.




# Electronic travel documents include, but are not limited to, e-passports, Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, and Exit-Entry Permits for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao. Please check if your passport cover or permit has the following icon.

* For direct flights to US destinations, check-in can only start 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure time. For flights to other destinations, please refer to the website of your airline.

^ In-town Check-in service is available for any passengers whose baggage does not exceed the size of 145cm (length) x 100cm (width) x 85cm (height) and weight of 32kg. For enquiries on baggage size, please check with your airline or Airport Express station staff.

Step 1: Scan your passport or boarding pass to retrieve your flight information
Step 2: Verify your personal information and print your luggage tag
Step 3: Review or select your seat and print your boarding pass (passengers who have already checked-in can change their seats here)
Step 4: Attach the luggage tag to your baggage
Step 5: Proceed to the Self Bag Drop Counter to drop your baggage

Step 1: Place your baggage on the conveyor belt
Step 2: Scan your face with the camera
Step 3: Follow the instructions on the screen
Step 4: Use the handheld scanner to scan the luggage tag attached to your baggage

【Limited-time Offer】Free MTR Single Journey Ticket for Using the In-town Check-in Service

From 6 June to 5 July 2024, Airport Express passengers who used the In-town Check-in service at Hong Kong or Kowloon Station can receive a free MTR Single Journey Ticket for Domestic Ride.

Terms & Conditions

  • Promotion Period: 6 June to 5 July 2024.
  • Passengers who have completed the check-in process and dropped off their baggage at the In-town Check-in area at Hong Kong or Kowloon Station can receive a free MTR Single Journey Ticket for Domestic Ride ("free ticket") from the station staff at the Self Bag Drop Counters.
  • Each passenger who used the In-town Check-in service can receive one free ticket each time.
  • Passengers must collect the free tickets in person at the Self Bag Drop Counters; claims made after leaving the counters will not be accepted.
  • When passengers collect the free tickets, station staff may check their Octopus records or Airport Express tickets and boarding passes to verify if they had entered the In-town Check-in area to use the service.
  • The free tickets are valid for one month from the date of issue.
  • Passengers can use the free ticket for one MTR single journey (except Airport Express, Light Rail, East Rail Line First Class, Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau journeys, MTR Bus, and MTR Feeder Bus) within the validity period. If changing lines between Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui Station, passengers have to exit and re-enter the system, therefore a new ticket must be purchased for the second leg of the journey.
  • The free tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
  • Use of the free ticket is subject to MTR By-laws and Conditions of Issue of Tickets.
  • If the free ticket is used to travel to either Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau Station, the holder is in breach of the Terms and Conditions and is liable to pay the full single journey fare between the entry station and Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau Station.
  • If the free ticket is used for travel on East Rail Line First Class, the holder is in breach of the Conditions of Issue of Tickets and is regarded as not having paid the fare and is liable to pay a surcharge of $1,000. The holder is also required to deliver up that free ticket to an official of the Corporation.
  • The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Ordinance shall not apply to the terms and conditions herein.
  • MTR Corporation Limited reserves the right to make the final decision in the event of any dispute.
