The deadly plague introduced in 2002's videogame adaptation Resident Evil continues its advance towards the annihilation of human civilization. The mutagenic virus that wracked Raccoon City in Resident Evil: Apocalypse now threatens the world, with Alice and company all that stand in the way.

A release date for the carnage of the next film in the series, Resident Evil: Extinction, has now been set by the studio: September 7th of next year (2007).

The film is currently in production in Mexico, which will represent the Nevada desert in the story. For a nice glimpse of the action and locale, see IGN FilmForce's recent exclusive set photos.

Extinction stars Milla Jovovich, Oded Fehr (The Mummy, RE: Apocalypse), Ali Larter (Final Destination), and Mike Epps. The corrupt Umbrella Corporation is once again in the role of the villains, with John Eric Bentley (TV's "Less than Perfect") playing an executive bent on hunting down Alice. Unfortunately, Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine in Apocalypse) no longer seems to be involved with the project.
