Singer Nana Mouskouri weds
Greek singer Nana Mouskouri has married her long-time record producer and partner Andre Chapelle in Switzerland.
Mouskouri, who is reputed to be the best-selling female artist ever in the world, wed at a private ceremony in the Geneva suburb of Cologny, the area's mayor said. Chapelle has produced her records since the 1960s, and they have been a couple since the 1970s. "The atmosphere was extremely warm and friendly," Mayor Jean-Claude Martin said. Prolific career It is Mouskouri's second marriage. She moved to Switzerland in 1974 after her first, to guitarist George Petsilas, broke up. The singer, 66, has recorded more than 1,000 songs during her career, including her 1986 hit Only Love, which went to number two in the UK. Having worked with Harry Belafonte and Quincy Jones, she has sold more than 200 million albums and been awarded over 300 gold and platinum discs around the world. She is a goodwill ambassador for Unicef, and represented Greece in the European parliament between 1994 and 1999. |
