Playing football in Trinity MCR’s five-a-side team has been a lot of fun. It’s a friendly and unpressured way to learn the sport and a great way to keep fit. Jonathan, DPhil Theology
Arts
It is very easy to get involved in the Arts at Trinity, and there is so much on offer. If your artistic tastes are not catered for by any of the available activities, you can always start one yourself! Students organise the College’s annual Arts week in Hilary Term.
Music
Many varieties of musical interest thrive in Trinity. There is a chamber orchestra, a swing band, a Chapel Choir and an active music society which gives termly concerts. We are particularly well-equipped for music making, with a sound-proofed practice room, three pianos, a drum kit and an organ which is very versatile and user-friendly. There are small annual instrumental awards. World-renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov was recently elected an Honorary Visiting Fellow and has led a violin masterclass with Trinity students.
Drama
The Trinity Players stage at least two productions a year, including one on the Trinity Lawns. Recent examples include The Grimm Tales, Dangerous Liaisons, and Amadeus . Apart from acting, there are opportunities for getting involved in writing, direction, production, and technical support. Some Trinity plays are staged outside Trinity both within Oxford ( Burton Taylor studio) and beyond, including the Edinburgh Festival.
Literature
Trinity is one of the few colleges to produce its own student newspaper, The Broadsheet. Students are invited to attend the College’s annual Richard Hillary Memorial lecture. Recent guest lecturers at this prestigious event include Philip Pullman, Carol-Ann Duffy, Sir Tom Stoppard, Sir Andrew Motion and Will Self.

Sport
Ideally located in the centre of the city, Trinity is home to a diverse and enthusiastic sporting community. Women’s, men’s and mixed teams thrive across sports such as football, hockey, Dancesport and rowing. There are many sports on offer that you may not have had the chance to try before, and you are always welcome to join new teams. The Trinity Dancesport team, which recently won the inter-collegiate competition, featured a number of novice dancers. In addition to participating in sport at college level, many Trinitarians play for University teams in a range of different sports. For more on current sporting societies at Trinity see the JCR website . Fifteen minutes away from the main College site is our sports ground, which is used for hockey, football and rugby in the winter, and cricket in the summer. There are also two tennis courts which can be booked during the summer. We have two well-equipped gyms, one on the main site and one in our Woodstock Road property in North Oxford, and a squash court on the main college site. Trinity is also only a short walk away from the University Sports centre on Iffley Road, which includes a full-sized swimming pool. The JCR is equipped with a pool table and table-tennis table, and members of the college can also hire punts during the summer. Whatever your sporting ability, and whichever sports you might wish to pursue whilst at university, Trinity’s inclusive community makes taking up a new sport ‘or setting up a new society’ easy.
Politics and Debate
Trinity has its own debating society, The Gryphon, one of Trinity’s oldest established societies. The Officers and Master of the Gryphon welcome members old and new to debate motions both relevant and irreverent after Hall on Sundays. The College’s PPE, Law, Medical and Scientific Societies organise termly talks by Trinity’s own academics or guest speakers. These talks bring together all members of college, not only those who study that particular subject, in a forum for lively debate on current research and issues.
