Hello Everyone, BD3D Here.
I created a free LOD/Proxy system for blender 2.8 or above, it's basically acting as a mesh-data exchanger, really useful if you'd like to optimize your scenes without using bounding boxes or by hiding everything.
Lodify is available on the Blender devtalk forum.
I recently made a little tutorial about it on my youtube channel.

Amazing work. I can see next steps could be to add:
1. Ability to quickly clear out and remove orphan LODify data.
2. Ability to loop through a selection of objects and automatically duplicate, decimate, and LODify them, with the option to replace LODify data or skip if LODify data is present.
3. Same for textures / materials.
This seems to be a necessary step to help Blender work with huge amounts of data in huge scenes.
really amazing! the only thing I can't figure out is how to separate the mesh from the low poly object. I can add it to the main object but if I hide the original low poly object as you say, then the object disappears.
I just thought I would also add - I have this problem only with the meshes I'm trying to exchange. if I make a third object, like a simple cube, and I use LODify to assign my original meshes to that cube, I can get it to work as advertised. But If I use LODify directly on my originals, it doesn't work.
Thank you so much for this!
