"The Enemy Within" is an episode of the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1. It is the first episode in which the people of Earth are identified as the Tau'ri.
Plot
Major Kawalsky, infested by a Goa'uld without anyone aware, experiences blackouts, during which the Goa'uld takes over his body.
In the meantime, Teal'c is questioned by several members of the Pentagon about the Goa'uld. High-ranking officers decide to bring him to Washington.
Once Stargate Command discovers that Kawalsky has a Goa'uld in him, they call upon the expertise of medical experts to remove it, but discover that the attempt would kill him.
Teal'c allows medical staff to perform controlled experiments on the larval Goa'uld to find a way to help Kawalsky. Although their efforts appear initially successful, Kawalsky attacks Teal'c when they are alone. The Goa'uld had already bound itself irreversibly to the host's brain - Kawalsky had been effectively dead for hours.
Overpowering Teal'c, the possessed Kawalsky attempts an escape through the Stargate, only to find Teal'c blocking his path. In the ensuing struggle, Kawalsky - and the symbiote - are killed. Although tragic, these events prove Teal'c worth, allegiance and honour to the SGC, and he is assigned as the fourth member of SG-1 on O'Neill's recommendation.
