    Isemerization of l-pinane at 500600°C under reduced pressure gave dihydromyrcene in about 60% yield. An organo boron compound was prepared from the dihydromyrcene and diborane in tetrahydrofuran by usual manner, and was oxidized with hydrogen peroxide obtaining d-citronellol. When dihydromyrcene was treated with various organic acids in the presence of a catalytic amount of boron trifluoride ether complex or sulfuric acid, amixture of six-and seven membered cyclic esters was obtained.

    The distribution patterns of larvae of Anopheles sinensis and Culex orientalis were studied in a paddy field in Toyama Prefecture. The numbers of mosquito larvae were counted, by 6 different experimenters, from 12 sections (6 peripheral and 6 inner) in the paddy field, scooping 10 times each in every section. The analysis of variance revealed that, within any one section, little difference was observed in larval counts between the 2 species as well as among different experimenters. The average number of larvae of both species was smaller in 3 peripheral sections where water was flowing, in comparison to the other 3 peripheral or 6 inner sections where water was still. Younger larvae were found more abundantly in the peripheral sections than in the inner ones, while older larvae were abundant in the latter sections.

    The distribution of plant-parasitic nematodes was surveyed in soybean fields in northern and central parts of Kyushu, Japan. Soil samples were collected from 48 fields, and nematodes were extracted by the Baermann funnel technique. Nematode species were identified using PCR-RFLP methods. Root-knot nematodes were detected in 15 of 48 fields (31.3%) and identified mostly as Meloidogyne arenaria and the rest as M.incognita. Root-lesion nematodes were detected in 3 of 48 fields (6.3%) and identified as Pratylenchus coffeae (Type A). Soybean cyst nematode, Heterodera glycines, was detected from 3 of 48 fields (6.3%); this is the first record of H. glycines in Oita Prefecture. Rotylenchulus reniformis was detected in 3 of 48 fields (6.3%).
  • 耕うん土塊のフラクタル性と形成要因について

    本報では, 土塊形状の記述をフラクタル幾何学を用いて行った。また, 小土塊の形成において重要と考えられる土塊表面の微小起伏及び亀裂の発生, 発達についても考察した。土塊の輪郭曲線, 亀裂線, 亀裂分布についてフラクタル性を検討した結果, 観測したスケールの範囲で測度と測定量の間にべき法則が認められ, フラクタルの特徴である自己相似性が確認された。また, フラクタル次元を求め, そのフラクタル構造の形成を3種類のモデルで考察し, 土塊形成現象の特徴を検討した。土塊表面の微小起伏や亀裂の形成は, 耕うんづめの高速微小振動領域と関連の深いことを実験的に明かにし, フラクタル性の現れる根拠であるミクロ領域の運動を検討した。

    炭素鋼棒を介して土に一軸の衡撃荷重を作用させ, 棒中の伝播応力波と土の変形及び土中の伝播応力を同時に計測できる実験システムを試作した。炭素鋼棒で検出した反射応力波により, 土の瞬間的ヤング率が推定できる。土の変形及び土中伝播応力より計算したヤング率は, 土粒子レベルの運動を媒介にして瞬間的ヤング率と大略結び付ける事ができる。土の巨視的な変形などの動的挙動を, 自由度の多い微視的領域の挙動から巨視的制御のもとに一種の協同現象を引き出す確率過程と見なすことができる。

    The argument for the rehabilitation from the Hanshin-Awaji Great Earthquake is mainly based on city planning, regional economy, and community revival. It is indispensable to place an emphasis on local culture and folk customs such as local festivals and community activities for investigating the revival of daily life in these areas. Therefore, this paper focuses on the Jizo festival in the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake stricken area. Investigating the Jizo festival is one of the most suitable means to understand the relationship between place and memory in stricken areas.
    The Jizo festival is a familiar folk custom in Japan. Jizo is a guardian of children and the stone statue of Jizo made is embodied in a small shrine. People pray to the Jizo statue for children's health and safety, and one's health, safety, and so on. Jizo was enshrined in the stricken area after the earthquake disaster. In 2002 and 2003, the author researched Jizo and the Jizo festival in Nagata-ku, Kobe City, which was greatly damaged by the earthquake.
    The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. The Jizo festival has been greatly influenced by urbanization and the disaster. Jizo has been sometimes moved, and the Jizo festival has been suspended. However, it is easy to enshrine Jizo in the niche of a city space because the statue is small. In addition, Jizo is enshrined by a very flexible group of inhabitants. The meaning of Jizo is very flexible for the inhabitants, and they are able to freely participate in the Jizo festival. The greater the inhabitants who participate in the Jizo festival, the more the memory of Jizo is shared among them. Enshrining Jizo is important for the sharing of the memory of Jizo by the inhabitants.
