"Bloodlines (Stargate SG-1)"

"Bloodlines" is an episode from Season 1 of the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1.

Plot

At the start of the episode, we see Teal'c watching a boy being implanted with a Goa'uld symbiote. He wakes up in the infirmary shouting "Rya'c". When asked about this, he says it means nothing. It is revealed that Stargate Command wanted to remove the symbiote from Teal'c but that wasn't possible because it would kill him. Teal'c then tells them that they could get a symbiote from Chulak, but both Jack and General Hammond refuse.

Teal'c later tells O'Neill that he has a son named Rya'c on Chulak who will soon reach the age for his first Prim'ta - the time when he will receive his symbiote. Teal'c plans to not let that happen and finally SG-1 is able to convince Hammond to let them go to Chulak and reveal the infos about Teal'c's family. They also hope to meet there more Jaffa who search for freedom, like Teal'c. In the meantime Teal'c wants to go alone but he is stopped and Hammond finally allows the whole SG-1 to go to Chulak. While Teal'c is disguised as a Jaffa soldier with a jammed Serpent head piece, the others dress up as priests.

When the team arrive at Chulak they go to Teal'c's house, only to find it burned down and marked with the symbol of a traitor. There the team meets Bra'tac, Teal'c's former master and also a Jaffa who searches for freedom. However at first he is reluctant about the humans. He also reveals to Teal'c that his wife Drey'auc and his son now live in a camp and he leads them to the place. There Teal'c is able to stop the Prim'ta ceremony for his son and kill the symbiote, much to Drey'auc's shock who wanted to stop him and for this even attacked him. It turns out that Rya'c has Scarlet Fever and will die if he doesn't get a symbiote. However SG-1 plans to bring him to SGC, where he would get help.

While Daniel Jackson and Captain Carter search the planet, the others try to bring Rya'c to the Stargate. However during their way Rya'c's situation worsens and because there are no other options, Teal'c gives his son his own symbiote, dooming himself to a slow and painful death. Carter and Daniel in the meantime find a temple, where they take a symbiote, intending to study it. As they leave, Daniel suddenly turns and opens fire on the vat of symbiotes, as a form of revenge for what the Goa'uld did to his wife Sha're and Skaara. They leave and search for the others.

Sam and Daniel arrive in time to save Teal'c, giving him the symbiote they captured. Afterwards Drey'auc and Rya'c leave the team to hide in the forest while SG-1 returns to the gate, which is guarded by Jaffa and priests. Despite his highly advanced age, Bra'tac attacks and easily defeats them and SG-1 returns to Earth.
