  • One million empires
    Microsoft said today that a demo of the Age of Empires expansion pack The Rise of Rome has been downloaded over a million times from the official Microsoft web site. The demo is also available on other gaming web sites. Recently a compilation called Age of Empires Gold was released, combining the original game with the expansion pack in one $40 package.

  • Activision acquisition steams ahead
    Activision will buy out Expert Software solely in common stock, the company said today. Expert Software publishes a variety of consumer software, including budget games like Chess and old Saturn-to-PC ports. Activision announced its intent to acquire the company earlier this year.

  • Extreme skateboarding and rollerblading
    Head Games is expanding its 'Extreme' line of sports games with Extreme Boards & Blades, an arcade game based on skateboarding and rollerblading. The game will be sponsored by Mountain Dew.

  • Unreal Tournament skins information
    A designer on Epic's forthcoming Unreal Tournament has put a website with the specs on building custom skins for the player models in the game. The siteincludes example skins and pictures, letting skin modelers get a head start on making custom character costumes for the game before it comes out.

  • Infogrames grabs Psygnosis Paris
    Information from Infogrames' recent financial results confirmed that the French company has acquired Psygnosis' Paris development studio. The studio, with some three dozen employees, is working on several console titles.
