Blue Lightning Illuminates Godzilla in New King of the Monsters Image

Lightning strikes in a brand new image for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Legendary is still in the early stages of marketing the latest installment of the MonsterVerse. After the first trailer launched at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, director Mike Dougherty is revealing the latest look.

The now dubbed MonsterVerse currently consists of just two movies: Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla and Jordan Vogt-Roberts' 2016 Kong: Skull Island. The two origin films laid the foundation for the world and their lead monsters - now known as Titans in the universe. Before the two creatures battle it out in Godzilla vs. Kong, the King of the Monsters will be getting a sequel all his own - kind of. Next year's sequel introduces iconic creatures like Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah, with other surprise additions possibly awaiting. The focus will still be on the towering titular Titan, and he's once again the focus in the latest image.

Dougherty posted the latest image from Godzilla: King of the Monsters on Twitter today, featuring Godzilla standing tall among the skyscrapers of whatever city he is making his way through. Bright blue lighting lights up the sky for the image, which helps show the dozens of planes either evacuating the premises or flying towards the threat Godzilla is there to face. Accompanying the image below was this powerful caption by Dougherty that reads, "Nothing on earth is its equal— a creature without fear. It looks down on all that are haughty; it is king over all that are proud."

This caption by Dougherty is actually taken straight from the New International Version translation of the Bible. It is an exact match to verses 33 and 34 in Job chapter 41. The passage comes from God speaking to Job about the power of the Leviathan, a sea monster with a description nearly identical to that of Godzilla. The chapter explains how Leviathan is a creature beyond the control of man, something that is certainly true of Godzilla, which makes this a fitting passage to reference by Dougherty.

This unequaled power of Godzilla will be put to the test in King of the Monsters though. The meaning behind this caption and the obvious future appearance of the Titan should simply reassure everyone that Godzilla will prove to be the King of the Monsters as the movie's title claims. It likely won't be an easy task, and may require the help of other Titans under his rule to ultimately save the day though. Either way, this image and caption are a great reminder of the power of Godzilla, an element that will hopefully be shown even further in the next trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
