The Penguin Press was founded in 2003 by Ann Godoff and launched its debut list in the Winter of 2004. Dedicated to publishing literary nonfiction and select fiction, its distinguished roster of authors include, among others, Chinua Achebe, Kofi Annan, John Berendt, Amy Chua, Niall Ferguson, Alan Greenspan, Jerome Groopman, Mark Helprin, Maira Kalman, Michael Kimmelman, Henry Kissinger, Roger Lowenstein, James M. McPherson, David Nasaw, Mary Oliver, Michael Pollan, Thomas Pynchon, Frank Rich, Thomas E. Ricks, Sapphire, Eric Schlosser, Zadie Smith, James B. Stewart, Claire Tomalin, Gordon Wood, and Daniel Yergin. The Penguin Press has published numerous New York Times and national bestsellers, including four Pulitzer Prize winners: Steve Coll's Ghost Wars, in 2005 for General Nonfiction; Liaquat Ahamed's Lords of Finance, in 2010 for History; Ron Chernow's Washington, in 2011 for Biography; and John Lewis Gaddis's George F. Kennan, in 2012 for Biography. Books from the Penguin Press have also earned prestigious prizes and citations such as the James Beard Award, the Orange Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Man Asian Prize, the Mark Lynton History Prize, the Arthur Ross Book Award, the Sidney Hillman Foundation Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.

President and Editor-in-Chief
Ann Godoff joined Penguin Group in 2003 to start her own imprint. Ms. Godoff has had a distinguished career in book publishing since joining the editorial department of Simon & Schuster in 1980. In 1987 she joined Atlantic Monthly Press as Senior Editor, becoming Editor–in–Chief in 1989. She was appointed executive editor at Random House in 1991, becoming a Vice President in 1994 and Editorial Director in 1995. In 1997 she became president, publisher, and editor-in-chief of the Random House Trade Publishing Group and executive vice president of Random House, Inc. Among the celebrated authors Ms. Godoff has acquired and edited are John Berendt, author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, a record–breaker on The New York Times bestseller list, 1997 Booker Award winner Arundhati Roy (The God of Small Things) and Zadie Smith (White Teeth), Ron Chernow, Alexandra Fuller (author of best-selling Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight), Caleb Carr, William Finnegan, Frank Rich, Michael Pollan, Carl Sagan, Francine du Plessix Gray, Thomas Pynchon, Steve Coll, Frank Rich, David Nasaw, Michael Kimmelman, and Alan Furst.

Scott Moyers is the publisher of the Penguin Press. Prior to Penguin, he worked at the Wylie Agency, Random House, Scribner, and Doubleday. Authors with whom he has worked include Chinua Achebe, Liaquat Ahamed, Ian Buruma, John Lewis Gaddis, Al Gore, Alan Greenspan, David Halberstam, Phil Jackson, Ma Jian, Tony Judt, David Mitchell, Errol Morris, Thomas E. Ricks, Jeffrey Sachs, W. G. Sebald, and Ali Smith. He graduated from the Radcliffe Publishing Course in 1991. A native of Virginia, he graduated from the College of William & Mary with a BA and MA in English.
