LA filmfest to open with ‘Chokher Bali’

New Delhi, March 21
After widespread national as well as international acclaim, Rituparno Ghosh’s ‘Chokher Bali’, starring former Miss World and Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai, has now been chosen as the opening film of the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) this year.

This year’s edition of IFFLA will also feature a tribute to award-winning actress Kiron Kher.

The actress, who has won a number of awards for her performances in ‘Khamosh Paani’ and filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh’s ‘Bariwali’, will be felicitated at this year’s IFFLA on April 15.

IFFLA has also organised an on-stage discussion as well as a question-and-answer (Q&A) session with Kiron about her outstanding career.

In fact, Sabiha Sumar’s ‘Khamosh Paani’, for which the actress won the Silver Leopard for Best Actress at the 2003 Locarno Film Festival, will be premiered at the fete.

The five-day fete, whose aim ever since its inception has been to pave way for a greater appreciation of Indian cinema by providing the public with a selection of films from and about India by Indian and international directors, will this year open on April 14 with Rituparno Ghosh’s ‘Chokher Bali’. This year, the festival will screen 24 films, including 10 feature films. — UNI
