Ethiopia Coronavirus Cases Increased to 9

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopia has recorded three new cases of noble coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total to 9.

“Ethiopia has confirmed three more cases and there are a total of nine cases since the confirmation of the first case on March 13, 2020,” said Dr. Lia Tadesse, Minister of Health, in a statement issued late Thursday.

One of the confirmed cases is a 44-years of old Japanese who had contact with a positive case. He was under close follow up by contact tracing team of the ministry.

The second confirmed case is an 85-years old Ethiopian who came to the country on March 2, 2020, while the third patient is a 39-years old Austrian who came to Ethiopia on March 15, 2020.

The first two new confirmed cases are in stable conditions, said the ministry.

However, “the 85-year-old Ethiopian patient has a severe form of illness and under close medical care”, said health minister Dr. Lia.

The ministry said it is “aggressively working” on the contact tracing of the confirmed cases and continued to follow the contacts closely.

“We strongly advise all travelers from COVID-19 affected countries to self-isolate themselves for 14 days after arrival,” Dr. Lia said.
