Trnio has three modes of scanning. For all three modes, it’s important to have good to great lighting. Also, plan your scanning route. Make sure you have plenty of space to walk around an object. Finally, and most importantly, scan objects with a lot of detail and color! They turn out best.
There is no manual trim option at this time. We do have Auto-Trimming, where Trnio automacially trims an object based on how you scan. To enable auto-trimming, do the following:
Place your object on a flat surface (i.e. table, ground). Trimming works better when the item is alone on the flat surface.
Make sure to completely walk around the object to complete a 360 around the object.
If you can, place the object on a magazine or tablecloth. This improves the trimming.
Ensure you have good lighting to improve quality.
You can export your scan as an OBJ file (with texture files). At this time, we do not support STL or PLY file formats. To convert to different file formats, we suggest using the free program Meshlab (www.meshlab.org).
In Meshlab, import your Trnio scan by:
Selecting File -> Import Mesh… and selecting the OBJ file.
Then do File -> Export Mesh as, and select STL, or PLY.
We also export directly to Sketchfab.
Yes, you’re able to 3D print our scans, but there’s a little bit of work to do so. Basically, after you scan an object, you’ll need to touch up the scan in MeshMixer (free) or Blender. From there, you’ll be able to 3D print your scan.
Here’s a great tutorial on how to do so! 3D-Scanning-and-Printing-Statues-Using-Trnio
In regards to privacy, Trnio offers a private mode. When turned on, any new projects will not be viewed by Trnio or added to our gallery. If a user has converted his account to private, and has a project in the gallery, the project will be removed from the gallery within 1-2 days.
If you use Trnio for a confidential client or project, it is best to do the following:
Make your account private (left menu bar).
Use the Import Images option to create scans. This will ensure you have copies of your images.
Export your scan once your scan has completed.
Delete the scan AFTER you have exported your scan. Deleting a scan removes ALL images and data used to create your scan.
