Kirron Kher’s stock zooms higher!
Kirron Kher, one of the women behind the success of Saas Bahu Aur Sensex, always makes her presence felt.
An acclaimed actress and better half of veteran actor Anupam Kher, Kirron was part of an all-women team in this film (the producer and director of the movie are both women). Ask her about the experience of working on the project and she says, It was great. We used to have chat sessions between shoots and it was nice to bond with so many women. It was a kitty party on the sets every day. But are women as unpredictable as shown in the film? Maybe. Even men are unpredictable. I think its great to be a mystery, says Kirron.
When did Kirrons tryst with cinema begin? I started my career in 1994-95. Before that, I was with my family, travelling all over the world. Those were the most romantic and fulfilling years of my life, says a nostalgic Kirron. When my son, Sikander turned 14, I started missing work. That was when I was approached for a theatre show called Saalgirah. I was thrilled. Soon, I got into a chat show called Purukshetra and then hosted Kirron Kher Today and Jagte Raho with Kirron Kher. Purukshetra is the best thing that has happened in my life. Meanwhile, I started getting offers from films, she adds.
Kirron is known for her punctuality on the sets. I owe it to my father. Being the daughter of an army officer, I am always punctual, says Kirron. She is also great fun on the sets and calls her younger counterparts Kabootar. I keep shouting Oye kabootaron, jaldi karo, she says with a smile.
Mention Anupam Kher and the lady blushes. He leaves home early in the morning and comes back late at night. He doesnt do anything at home. But we are great friends. How does she find working with Anupam, the actor? The only problem with Anupam on the sets is that he forgets his lines if I am there. But its good to have him on the sets and I enjoyed designing costumes for Anupam and Sikander.
Ironically, the lady, who has played many roles as a mother on screen, hates to be called so. I am an actor. I dont want to be stereotyped as a motherly actor. Has Kirron ever interfered with the script? Yes, but only with the dialogues. For Hum Tum, I asked Kunal whether I could rewrite my portions and he agreed. But in Devadas, the dialogues were so strong that I didnt change even a single word, she explains.

Ask her about the most memorable moment in her life and she instantly replies, My childhood, without doubt. I still remember my sister and I playing badminton with Prakash Padukone. During winters, we used to go for Sangeet sammelans at Jalandhar where Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma used to perform, she reminisces.
Kirron has recently added an extra r to her name. Does she believe in numerology? I am a staunch believer in God and numerology. I also believe in life after death, she says.
So, what are Kirrons plans for the future? I want to write an autobiography titled The Life of an Ordinary Woman, she concludes with her trademark smile.
