ZAMBOANGA CITY The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and its counterpart, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia, held on Monday their first meeting on a working group for migrant workers aimed at finding suitable solutions on how to deal with thousands of Filipino migrant workers in the federal state of Sabah due for deportation back to the country.
DFA Undersecretary Jose S. Brillantes and Dato Seri Aseh bin Haji Che Mat, Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia, met for the first time to discuss the problem.
In a joint statement released to newsmen by the DFA and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia, both sides expressed deep satisfaction at the convening of the first RP-Malaysia Working Group on Migrant Workers with Brillantes reaffirming the Philippine government commitment to pursue strong, stable, and vibrant bilateral relations with Malaysia. …
