50 richest Ukrainians

Ukrainian weekly journal “Korrespondent” published a list of 50 the richest Ukrainians – all known hryvnia billionaires of the country, according to UNIAN.

Chief Editor Vitalyi Sych presented the list at a press conference in UNIAN.

According to him, the assets of many manufacturers and business owners significantly grew for the last year. As it turned out, all hryvnia billionaires overall assets of the country is 64.4 billion dollars, which is twice as much a state revenue.

As before, Rinat Akhmetov, Donetsk businessman, heads the list. His assets are 15.6 billion dollars. For a year his assets grew by a third.

Even more significantly Viktor Pinchuk assets grew – almost by 90%. Such a rapid progress was made due to twofold up of his main asset – “Ukrsotsbank” and threefold up of “Interpipe” corporation. Analysts noted that pipe and metallurgical assets preparation to IPO made Pinchuk business more transparent.

The third place belongs to Dnipropetrovsk businessman Igor Kolomoyskyi with 3.8 billion dollars, after him goes his partner Genadiy Boholubov with 3.35 billion dollars.

The fifth goes Kostiantyn Zhevago. One of the youngest country billionaire’s succeeded to increase their assets by more than 40%.

The most active in increasing their assets appeared to be financiers and some of them did that by two and more times. In the present rating 26 members are bankers themselves or have their assets in the financial sector.

The success of the bank owners attracted western capital to the Ukrainian market.

Last year Ukrainian financial structures rose in price at the average by 50-60% (for the comparison, Polish and Czech banks rise in price by 20% a year).

The richest 50 Ukrainians are mainly public people. The Party of Regions and Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc have 8 people each, “Our Ukraine” – 1(capital is 504 million dollars), Socialist party – 1(2.4 billion dollars) and Leonid Chernovetskyi Bloc – 1 (404 million dollars).

Chief Editor also emphasized on the understanding to have a transparent business among the Ukrainian businessman and a broad response of showing their assets.

Footnote. “Korrespondent” annual rating is taken for the base of other assets’ evaluation. Investment Company Dragon Capital financial specialists calculated for the journal according to the international methods of assets’ evaluation, which is based on a new yearly enterprises’ financial statements, which is published in March and April. Experts use an analogical method for the rating preparation for Forbes.

“Korrespondent” also specifies the information with the candidate.

The first rating of the richest people in the country was published in the “Korrespondent” journal in July 1, 2006.

To the Editor(s): As a reader and participant in forUm, I've noticed you have removed and do not allow comments to almost all articles on the same page as the news articles. When readers can view the opinion of others, good or bad, while at the same time compare the author's article, good or bad, with members of forUm on the same page, insightful knowledge is gained for all readers. This made forUm better than other Blogs. In fact, one of the best! The change in Comments however, by not showing the reader's comments under each article reflects a restriction upon Freedom of Expression within the structure of forUm's news service. ForUm was fun and interesting - it gave all readers the opportunity to be interactive, in digital print, with a daily news service for each published article. In this case, it's better you change the name of forUm. Take out the U. As it's not for ME, the reader, anymore. And change it to: form. Or perhaps, formless. Just another Blog.

One more comment, before all Comments are removed on the same page as the news articles. Knowledge is one of three aspects of Ukraine's Tryzub. If this is a Ukrainian News Blog, my Will and Action (the other two aspects of Ukraine's Tryzub), as I write these words, only serve you the reader, good or bad, for your Knowledge. Even if you are not one of the 50 richest Ukrainians.

Kozak. If you'd like, you can post a link to this article in the forum section and continue posting comments. The opportunity hasn't gone away, its just been moved to a different section.

To Editors and Kozak, I too was very disappointed to see the blog separated from the news item, as it was one of the few sites where I would get the news and then get insight from around the world. Separation isolated the opinions. However, I noticed the blog degraded into name calling, accusations, extreme-ism, emotional, etc., to a point where it overtook the discussion. I noticed once that 10+ consecutive postings were by or on Angela, news item not even discussed. Maybe that is intentional, to jam up the blog with emotion rather than thoughtful opinion and discussion. aaaaaa Question to Editor: IS there a way for the discussion section, once linked, to look like this page with a replica of the news item at top and comments to follow? We are all familiar with that. So the initial page would be just news with a link at the bottom for the blog, then the link looks exactly like the news page except the blog is at the bottom. It would be nice and familiar. Thank you.

Kozak and Roman...the comments section has been replaced by a partially blind navigation to a different forum. Yes there is a link to click, but rather than directly to a comment page, you are in the forum's maze, and you can search out an article, if you like. It is truly possible to develop...for lack of a better word lets call it a (hyperlink)...actually I'm joking, that is the word. Just link to the right page, it would be better. But even better than that, just have the comments at the bottom, maybe hidden by default, but click on the button, and wham they open up. Its a common misperception to believe that comments degrade into name calling. Comments are almost always full of name calling. This is human nature. However, the reason I suggest it can be tolerated, is also among that name calling is perspective from around the world. It is effectively gone from the site now, I agree with Kozak.

If you look at really popular sites they get 500 comments on an article. They don't have them all a the bottom...what they do is show the last ten. The impact of this, is that people can get their say, but its so rare to click to the 2nd page...that really new comments are cycling out the old comments from the main page. You could even get to where it looks like its been reasonably discuss and lock further comments on the article... I have to tell you I like those solutions better than the current one. I effectively has stopped using the site, because I do want to comment on stories...I don't want to get involved heavily into a forum, which is primarily a place where people hang out and socialize...dont' really have time for that.

We can thank Thomas Martinez Jr and his bias moderation ad tactics of abuse. The same tactics that saw him banned from Pravda.com.ua...

What UkrToday neglects to mention is that he was also banned from Pravda. Oh, yes, and from this forum a dozen times, from wikipedia four times... The guy has nothing better to do than hijack every available forum to push his points of view which are of no interest to anybody else and to go to ever more extreme and illegal means to libel anyone who stands up to him. The archtypal autistic cyberbully.
Odessite (18:52 | 31 January,2008)
Exactly, Peter. The failed Australian politician, UkrToday, in his element, doing what he does BEST of all - cyberbullying. One can only hope the net will soon rid of this moronic cretin.

I'm a flaming fag and have been sick not knowing the next time I'm going to get rammed. I know my days are numbered on the internet. But I'm going to be the last one to speak. Here's my address if there are any men lonely in the forum. Mironosinskaya 68-8 (building number 68 flat number 8). If you want to join me in Kharkiv, just go to the nearest gay club and ask for Anthony De Vries Van Der Craats. I work for the Magic Camp with little children. Nice young little boys to play with. You can contact them, if you have young children, I prefer young boys. Randy Stark likes the young girls. Please call me.
