Don Mancini Teases “Child’s Play: The TV Series,” Coming Soon!

Published

After 30 years and seven films, the Child’s Play film franchise is headed to the small screen with an official television series, as we exclusively told you back in February. Franchise architects Don Mancini and David Kirschner have been developing the series this year, and over on Twitter today, Mancini officially teased the project with a fun GIF.

Read on for everything we know so far!

Mancini told us earlier this year that the series was “deliberately set up at end of the last movie,” while further adding that the “tone is dark and disturbing.”

“We plan to use Child’s Play in the title,” Mancini explained. “We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.”

He confirmed that Brad Dourif will once again return to voice Chucky!

We connected with Kirschner soon after, who stated that it won’t be a reboot and will be a continuation story, while also reflecting back on his 30-year relationship with Mancini.

“I don’t think there’s a relationship that lasted this long,” he stated. “I’m incredibly excited about the series and to explore a world in which we’ve never done before.”

“Don has taken the franchise in a wonderfully frightening direction,” Kirschner added. “He seems to outdo himself every time.”

It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean an end to the film franchise. For right now, the focus is on an 8-part, hourlong series that will keep Chucky canon. Will we see Tiffany? Glen/da? All of that is being kept under wraps for now, but we’ll keep you updated.

The Disney+ series “Goosebumps” is coming back for a brand new second season that will feature a new cast, new setting, and new story, and the full cast has now been announced.

For starters, the previously announced series regular cast for Season 2 includes David Schwimmer (Anthony), Ana Ortiz (Jen), Sam McCarthy (Devin), Jayden Bartels (Cece), Elijah Cooper (CJ), Galilea La Salvia (Frankie) and Francesca Noel (Alex).

Freshly announced today, Arjun Athalye (“Are You Afraid of the Dark?”) is Sameer, Eloise Payet (“The End of the Party”) is Hannah, Christopher Paul Richards (“The Kids Are Alright”) is Matty, and Kyra Tantao (“ZOMBIES 3”) is Nicole — four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994, becoming a central secret to the present-day characters.

Additionally, Stony Blyden (“American Born Chinese”) has joined the cast as Trey, Frankie’s boyfriend, while Sakina Jaffrey (“Billions”) is Ramona, a mysterious woman.

The Disney+ series is of course based on R.L. Stine’s iconic series of books.

Here’s the official synopsis for “Goosebumps” Season 2:

“The new story begins with Devin and Cece, fraternal twins adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Devin, Cece and their friends — Alex, CJ and Frankie — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

Plunging viewers into a world of mystery and suspense, the first season of the new “Goosebumps” series followed a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.
