Lazaroni replaces Rajevac as Qatar coach

DOHA: In a surprise move, Qatar parted ways with their Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac and appointed Brazilian Sebastiao Lazaroni, who has managed leading teams including his native side at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, as his successor.

Qatar had failed to impress under Rajevac’s short stint as the team suffered losses to minnows India, in a friendly, and Vietnam, in the away leg of the 2014  Asian Zone World Cup qualification second round, recently. In spite of the defeat, Qatar made it to the third round with a 4-2 aggregate win.

Lazaroni, who was in charge of Qatar Stars League side Qatar Sports Club, took over the reins and trained the national team at the Al Sadd Stadium on Sunday.
