U2 Faraway So Close by BP Fallon.

U2 Faraway So Close
Edited by Philip Dodd
Published by Virgin Books 1994

Welcome to the world of U2 Faraway So Close, a rollercoaster of a rock'n'roll adventure
alongside the planet's biggest, most successful band, and in the witty, mercurial company
of Mr BP Fallon, " guru, viber and DJ" according to his Zoo TV tour credentials.

U2 Faraway So Close brings together his extraordinary, lyrical, poignant, ballsy writing style
and the very best of the thousands of photographs he took. It's a geographical journey,
from the backstreets, friends and relatives of Dublin to the raunch of Mexico nightlife, from
the edginess of Times Square to the beaches of Sellafield.

Above all, this is a rock'n'roll journey, where U2 and BP encounter some of the talents who
helped create its turbulent history: legendary bluesmen, gospel greats, Phil Spector, Keef,
the Velvets, Led Zep, Public Enemy, Primal Scream and Bjork, Abba and the spirit of Elvis.

"The first records that moulded and influenced and coloured and changed
and warped my life... they're forever young.
As I write this, I'm listening to them still. I'm also listening to Underworld and Leftfield and
The Chemical Brothers and Tricky and Chuck D.
I'm still listening to noise that upsets some people.
Thank God.
Melodies are made of this."

In the book BP Fallon lists So Alone by Johnny Thunders as one of his favourite LPs.
