Rockwell Collins was awarded a contract in October 1995 by the Oklahoma Air Logistics Center (ALC) to act as prime contractor for the USAF Pacer CRAG (Compass, Radar, And GPS) upgrade for the US Air Force (USAF) fleet of Boeing KC-135 aircraft. In addition to the PACER CRAG upgrade, Rockwell Collins was awarded a USD7 million Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) to the baseline programme for integration of Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Central Air Data Computer (CADC) and standby attitude indicator. Rockwell Collins delivered three upgraded KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft to the USAF in July 1996 for operational testing at McConnell Air Force Base. Production contract for KC-135 upgrade programme awarded in March 1997. Programme initially planned for up to 550 examples, but reduced initially to 278 before being revised to 419. Installation work carried out by BAE Systems Flight Systems (formerly Tracor) at Mojave, California. Deliveries were spread over seven options with the baseline programme completed in September 2002. Rockwell Collins delivered the 419th and final C/KC-135 series aircraft upgraded with full Pacer CRAG GATM at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas, on 12 July 2011. GATM provides the KC-135 with systems that meet international communication, navigation, surveillance/air traffic management standards.
