Nestled between the tip of Australia and the coastal shores of Papua New Guinea, the Torres Shire covers 100 Islands and over 1200sq km of the Australian north coast.
The Torres Shire Council is the authority responsible for administrating Local Government matters relating to the populated Port Kennedy group of Thursday, Horn, Prince of Wales and Friday Islands. It is also responsible for the remainder of the Torres Strait and the Northern Peninsula Area that does not come under the control of Community Councils under the Community Services Act.
The Torres Shire is a close community focused Council representing the fundamental and future needs of the residents.
