Rare's Donkey Kong 64 to hit the console this winter in a big way, says Nintendo.

Nintendo's Peter Main talked in short about Rare's upcoming Donkey Kong 64 (tentative) at this week's Toy Fair in New York. Though no details regarding DK's actual gameplay mechanics were revealed, the NOA executive didn't hesitate to mention that he expects it to sell in Zelda-esque numbers -- this winter.

"Waiting in the wings is an 800-pound gorilla who looks, in fact, a lot like an 800-pound gorilla. I refer, or course, to the legendary Donkey Kong," said Main. "The 64-bit version is already poised to be the must-have videogame, as it pushes the hardware to levels not thought possible with this generation of hardware."

IGN64 anticipates the unveiling of Donkey Kong 64 at this year's E3 in Los Angeles.
