He was traditionalist insofar as he opposed things such as railroads and any kind of liberalizing reforms in the Papal States, but he was not a doctrinal traditionalist (as the former link implied) which would have meant that he denied human reason in favor of a primitive Divine Revelation handed down through the human race.
