メアリ・バログ（Mary Balogh、本名：メアリ・ジェンキンス・バログ〈Mary Jenkins Balogh〉、1944年3月24日 - ）は、イギリス生まれ、現カナダ在住の歴史ロマンス作家。
経歴[編集]
ウェールズ、スウォンジーにて[1]、看板職人の父アーサー・ジェンキンスと主婦の母ミルドレッド・ダブルの娘として生まれ育つ。大学卒業後の1967年、2年の契約で教師として赴任したカナダで、検死官で救急車の運転士だったロバート・バログと出会い結婚し、サスカチュワン州南東部の町キプリングに定住する[1]。長らく高校で英語を教え、校長の地位まで上り詰めた。3人の子と5人の孫がいる[2]。
ジョージェット・ヘイヤーの作品を読んで歴史ロマンスの世界に魅了され、バログ自身の作品もジョージ3世治世期の摂政時代を舞台とした作品が多い。彼女が描くヒロインは、ある時は高級売春婦、またある時は非嫡出子など「レディ」ではなく、“身を持ち崩した”女であることが多々あり、その誰もが官能的で情熱的な恋愛を楽しんでいる。
処女作"A Masked Deception" の執筆を始めたのは1983年、家族に囲まれながらの夕食の席だった。同作は1985年にシグネット社から刊行され、その年のロマンティック・タイムズのリージェンシー（イギリス摂政期）新人作家賞を受賞した。
