Etymology[edit]

From João de Loureiro's (1790), translingual Osmanthus (genus of flowering shrubs), from Ancient Greek ὀσμή (osmḗ, smell) + ἄνθος (ánthos, "flower"), for the strong scent of the O. fragrans.
