Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Japanese 美少年 (bishōnen びしょうねん), from Middle Chinese (mˠiɪX, beautiful) + 少年 (ɕiᴇuH nen, teenaged boy) (compare Mandarin 少年 (shàonián)).
