From a transliteration of Modern Greek Βασίλειος (Vasíleios), a male given name used in (modern) Greece, which in turn derives from Ancient Greek Βασίλειος (Basíleios), from βασίλειος (basíleios, of the king, kingly, royal), from βασιλεύς (basileús, king).
