Etymology[edit]

Diacriticless transliteration of Iranian Persian تِهران (tehrân), from Classical Persian تَهران (tahrān). Ahmad Kasravi believed the word "Tehran" is derived from an Indo-European language and originally meant "the Hot Place" ("teh" meaning "hot", and "rān" meaning "place"). (Karvand Kasravi, page 273).
