  1. Any of several plants grown as leaf vegetables:
    1. Ipomoea aquatica, water spinach, a semi-aquatic plant with hollow stems and long, lance-shaped leaves.
    2. Amaranthus dubius, often bearing red or purple marks
    3. Amaranthus tricolor, edible amaranth
    4. Basella alba, Malabar spinach, with thick, succulent, heart-shaped leaves
    5. Capsella bursa-pastoris (shepherd's purse)
