Taoiseach Enda Kenny was among more than 9,000 cyclists taking part in the 180km Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle today.

The organisers of the event, which is in its 29th year, hope to raise around €1m for a number of local charities.

This was the Taoiseach's third year to take part in the cycle and he was accompanied by his 17-year-old son Ferdia.

Minister for Arts, Heritage & Gaeltacht Affairs Jimmy Deenihan and Minister of State Ciarán Cannon also took part.

Mr Kenny had said it was one of his personal goals since the beginning of the year to finish all 180km of the event.
