The International Judo Federation announced “with regret the cancellation of the 2022 Grand Slam in Kazan, Russia, which was planned to be held 20th to 22nd May 2022.”

IJF President Marius L. Vizer: “We are saddened by the current international situation, the result of inefficient dialogue at international level.

We, the sports community, must remain united and strong, to support each other and our universal values, in order to always promote peace and friendship, harmony and unity.

The judo family hopes that the current unrest can be solved in the last moment, to re-establish normality and stability in Eastern Europe and the world, to once again be able to focus on the diverse cultures, history and legacy of Europe, in the most positive way.”

It was a clean message with a 'Judo for Peace' header, which was the only statement of the message. There was no sign like the IOC comdemned the breach of the Olympic Truce during the period of the Olympic Games which ends seven days after the closing of the Paralympic Games. The message follows after the IOC urged all International Federations to relocate or cancel their sports events currently planned in Russia or Belarus.

After the IJF announced the cancellation of the Grand Slam in Kazan, the European Judo Union will likely follow up quickly with the cancellation of the European Cup in Orenburg and Cadet European Cup in Tula both held earlier than the IJF Grand Slam in Russia.
