According to the ESRB, 94% of all games ever rated have fallen into the "E for Everyone," (which replaced K-A) and "E10+," which is the "Everyone 10 and up" rating added in 2005.
The ratings have worked, with the ESRB reporting that 85% of all parents are familiar with the ratings given to games. Many retailers restrict sales of "M" rated games to players age 17 and above, and while there is no law in place to prevent the sale of "M" rated games to minors, retailers comply voluntarily to keep their businesses in the good graces of consumers.
