Gold Glove winner Yolmer Sanchez is reportedly returning to the Chicago White Sox organization.
The second baseman signed a minor-league deal Tuesday, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports.
Sanchez spent parts of six seasons with the Sox before being non-tendered following the 2019 season. He signed with the San Francisco Giants in late January and was released Friday.
Sanchez has a .244/.299/.357 career slash line with 31 home runs and 110 doubles. He’s more known for his defense — winning the American League Gold Glove at second base in 2019.
Sanchez has also provided plenty of entertainment, whether it’s giving himself a Gatorade shower or creating a mud angel during a rain delay.
Danny Mendick has played well at second base in the absence of injured Nick Madrigal. Mendick has a .264 average with two home runs and four RBIs. Madrigal has been on the injured list since Aug. 5 with a separated left shoulder.
The Sox are also without infielder/outfielder Leury Garcia. He is on the injured list with a sprained left thumb and will be out until around October.
