Good, quick read that flowed well. The ending was surprising and welcome. I liked the characters but found the naivete of Raymond refreshing, although not in his best interest.

Raymond Winters’ life is crumbling around him, and in some ways you’d think he’d be better off. An unfortunate mistake leads Raymond down a path of betrayal, murder and the struggle to defend his innocence. This is a fast paced psychological mystery that leaves the reader wondering if this could happen to them.

I’ve read all of Nick Russell’s Big Lake books and desperate for more of his excellent writing, I picked up Black Friday (and Dog’s Run, which is reviewed separately).

Typically I receive books for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, however if I find an author whose work is exceptional, I will purchase their novels from that point forward. That is the case with Mr. Russell’s work, aside from the first Big Lake novel which I received for free, I have purchased all of his works. See all our reviews at [...] at [...]

Take an ordinary man in a loveless marriage who has a one-time fling and then watch him as his entire life swirls down a deadly, dark hole. Accused of murder and feeling the animosity and anger of his family and friends, Ray Winters desperately reaches out for any helping hand, only to see those who try to assist him turn up dead, and the deaths blamed on Ray. As he struggles to find those behind the killings so he can clear himself, more of the community turn against him. I won't say anything more, but will add that this story is so tightly wound, that as it progresses that you'll find yourself chewing your nails as Raymond Winters' time ticks down toward zero. A great story by a masterful author who knows how to tell a tale!
