Zaira Wasim awarded the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017

NEW DELHI: The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind gave away the National Child Awards 2017 on the occasion of Children's Day in New Delhi today. The Awards were given in the presence of Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Dr. Virendra Kumar. The National Child Awards 2017 are given to celebrate the exceptional achievements of children; as well as to individuals and institutions who work for child welfare.

This year, the President honoured 16 children, out of which one child was given a gold medal and 15 children were given silver medals.

National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017


1)Master AKASH MANOJ, born on 21st December 2001, has an outstanding, creative bent of mind. He has invented a device to detect silent heart attacks six hours prior to attack, that has the potential to   save many lives. He has been honoured by the former President of India,Shri. Pranab Mukherjee for inventing this life saving device. Akash  has also received a grant of Rs.1,00,000 by BIRAC‐ SRISTI,Govt. of India, for development of this project . He has also   received a certificate of endorsement and clinical validation for his project from Tokyo as well as clinical validation from AIIMS. Master AKASH MANOJ is being awarded  The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, for his excellence in the field of Innovation.

2) Kumari ZAIRA WASIM , born on 23rd October 2000, in J&K, is already an actor of repute. At such a tender age, she  has featured in various films drawing attention to burning  issues such as child marriage, sexual abuse and above all gender parity. Through her art, Zaira has propagated the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao very strongly . She has been successful in conveying a powerful message of transcending social barriers and achieving one's dreams and thereby has served as a source of inspiration for many young girls, who are aspiring to make their mark in the world. Zaira   is a winner of the National Film Award and Zee Entertainment Award  for The  "Best Child Artist" 2017.  
Kumari ZAIRA WASIM  is being awarded the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, in the field of Films.  

3)Master SHAHIL DEY, born on 17th January 2007,  achieved international rating at the age of 5 and  thereby  became the youngest player in India to have achieved this feat. He  secured a  Gold Medal, (UNDER‐5 CATEGORY) in The  Asian School Chess championship 2012 . He has also won a Gold Medal ,(UNDER  ‐8 CATEGORY) in the  Common Wealth Chess Championship 2015 , secured a  Bronze Medal, (under‐10 category) in The Asian Youth Chess Championship 2016 held in Mongolia and bagged a Bronze Medal in The Blitz Chess Asian School Chess Championship. Master  SHAHIL DEY  is being awarded  The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017,for his excellence in the field of Sports.

4) Master SHRESTH AGRAWAL, born on 31st March 2001,  won The  Central Board of Secondary Education  National Science Exhibition 2015 for  his project "Kill  the Epidemic Before It Kills You". Subsequently he has also won The Grand Award at The Institute for Research and Innovation National Fair 2016 for an improved version of the project. Shresth has also received The  "Regional Alpha Theta Award" for his exemplary mathematical work . He has developed a Personal Home Page (PHP)and SQI based election  software that  was  successfully used in school elections. He attended world's biggest science fair, held in Los Angeles and bagged 3rd special award for innovative Robotics, Computer Science and Maths. He has  also innovated human redeemer scale, which is a formula to measure the level of any  epidemic. Master SHRESTH AGRAWAL is being awarded  The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017,for his excellence in the field of Innovation .

5) Master NISHANT ABHANGI, born on 14th December 2001 has bagged Gold Medal    in The 13th International Junior Science Olympiad. He was among the rankers in The National Standard Examination in astronomy. Nishant was selected to participate in the 11th International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics conducted by Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education,Govt. of India and  secured  the Award of Excellence in The  Australian National Chemistry Quiz. Master NISHANT ABHANGI is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, for his excellence in the field of Academics.

6) Master SWASTHIK PADMA, born on 16th September 2001, has an innovative bent of mind. He developed a corrosion resistant composite material from Low Density Polythene waste plastic and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag which was presented at The International Science and Engineering Fair 2017 at Los Angeles. He has also bagged the Grand Award at the IRIS National Science Fair held at Pune and The Guide Recognition Award at Indian Science and Engineering Fair held at Puttur. Master SWASTHIK PADMA    is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017,for his excellence in the field of Innovation.


7) Master FLOYD EMMANUEL LIBERA, born on 25th March 2001, is an exceptionally talented Drummer. He has been achieving various levels of grade kits from Trinity College of London, since the age of eight. He has also achieved 
Licentiate of Trinity College London Drum Kit Recital in 2016. Floyd has also secured special achievement award from The  Cross Roads World Musical Festival 2017 held at Kochi. Master FLOYD EMMANUEL LIBERA is being awarded The  National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, for his excellence in the field of MUSIC.

8) Master RISHABH GARG, born on 3rd June 2001, is a brilliant  child with a very innovative mind. Felicitated by Indian Council for Agrarian Research, for designing a million year calendar on an A4 sheet. Rishabh has also received CSIR
Innovation Award and a citation by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi. He has been applauded and honored by various Ministries for his outstanding achievements in science and technology. His invention of  a spy car
and a Generic Information system is laudable .He has also achieved recognition from NASA as the best student for his application of engineering and design processes. He has discovered  a unique rock RATW12093  and shared with Mars
Space Flight Facility, Arizona State University U.S.A. to support the mission rock around the world Master RISHABH GARG is being awarded    The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017,for his excellence in the field Innovation .

9) Master ARYAN CHOPRA, born on 10th December 2001,  is an outstanding Chess player who  secured the title of Grand Master at the young age of 14 and is the second youngest Grand Master In India. He bagged Gold Medal in The Common
Wealth Games, (under‐ 10 category) consecutively in 2009 and 2010. Aryan has also won a Silver and a Gold medal at  The Asian School Chess Championship in 2009 &  2010 respectively. Master ARYAN CHOPRA is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, for his excellence in the field of Sports.


10) Kumari LABDHI SURANA, born on 25th September 2010, is an outstanding Roller Speed Skater.  She is  the youngest and the only girl  to represent India in The International Roller Speed Skating Games at Germany, Belgium and Hong
Kong. She is    also the only Indian, in 39 years to secure a Gold and a Bronze Medal  at The  39th Speed Skating Kriterium -Europa Cup held at Germany. Kumari Labdhi Surana  won three Golds and one Silver Medal with 3rd Rank at  The 34th
Reko Roller International Championship held at Belgium. Kumari LABDHI SURANA is being awarded The National Child Award for her Exceptional Achievement 2017, in the field of Sports.

11) Master KRISHNA PANDIT, born on 3rd September 2002, has received numerous accolades in Computer Technology. He has won various National level competitions like Google Web Rangers, National Science Concourse, etc. He has developed various android applications that are being used by a number of countries. He has launched a startup "Netorians" . Master KRISHNA PANDIT is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, in the field of Computer Technology.

12) Kumari SANIYA SUBASH,  born on 19th December 2001, is a versatile child. She has taken  training  in various kinds of Martial Arts and  has also been awarded a "Black Belt First Dan". Saniya has won two Gold Medals in The 5th Asian Sqay
Championship held at Thailand and has been the only one from Andaman and Nicobar islands to do so .She has also qualified for The 2nd Junior World Championship, to be held in Jakarta. In addition to participating and winning in
various sports activities, Saniya is also  trained in Bharatanatyam Dance. Kumari SANIYA SUBASH    is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, in the field of Sports.

13)Master JAYSHEEL BUDDHADEO, born on 22nd November 2009, is an environmentalist and a multitalented child. He is extremely skilled in Harmonium and Oration . At such a tender age, he has been able to use his skills very
constructively to promote Recycling of Natural Resources to save energy and
environment. He has set a National Record in The  India Book of records and  The World Records of India as a "Young Crusader To Promote Environment". His
initiatives for environment conservation have been registered in the United Nation Environment Program. He is the youngest recipient of Diploma in Hindustani Classical Music from Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad and has also been invited and honored by radio channels as  a child artist. Master JAYSHEEL BUDDHADEO is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, in   the field of Indian Classical Music and Social Service.

14)Kumari  KASHISH, born on 8th August 2004, is an outstanding  theatre artist. She has been performing with Salaam Balak Trust in theatre on issues related to girl child. She is herself a child in need  of care and protection and is supported by a
child care Institution. However in spite  of her vulnerabilities, she is spreading the message of courage and resilience in  the face of adversity, through her art. Kumari KASHISH is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional
Achievement 2017 in  the field of Performing  Arts.

15)Kumari NIKHIYA  SHAMSHER,  born on 2nd June 2002, has done commendable work in social service. She has  helped 7700 underprivileged children by providing them Bags, Books and other essential school items. She has also equipped 15
schools and colleges with Science and Math laboratories through her 'Yearn to Learn' project, which has brought smiles to many faces.  Nikhiya  has launched her own e‐commerce website to raise funds for her initiatives. Kumari NIKHIYA SHAMSHER is being awarded The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017,for her excellence in the field of social service.

16) Master JAISAL SHAH, born on 20th December 2009, has shown enormous talent potential and prowess in learning chess. He is also the National level champion in under‐7 category. He mentors kids and encourages them to learn and master chess, which also helps them to improve their concentration in studies and daily routine. Jaisal Shah has impacted the lives of many children through disseminating his knowledge  to them. His achievements at a young age have been acknowledged by National Media. Master JAISAL SHAH is being awarded National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement 2017, in the field of Sports.

The National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement are given to recognize children with exceptional abilities in fields such as academics, culture, arts, sports, music etc. Children in the age group of 5-18 years are eligible for the award. The child with the most outstanding achievement is honoured with a cash prize of Rs.20,000/-, a certificate/citation and a Gold Medal. Fifteen children are being honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, a certificate/citation and a Silver Medal each for this year. The gold and silver awardees are also given book voucher of Rs. 10,000/- and Rs.3,000/- respectively since 2015.
