In the two weeks since Pokémon Go’s U.S. debut, there have been numerous reports of players getting injured while trying to catch ’em all. But perhaps nothing is as astonishing as this video from the Baltimore Police Department of a distracted driver crashing into a patrol car because he was playing Pokémon Go behind the wheel.

The accident in question took place at about 3:30 a.m. ET yesterday, July 18, according to the Baltimore Police; the location appears to be the corner of Eastern Avenue and S. Linwood Avenue in the Canton neighborhood of the city. While three cops were chatting on the sidewalk, a Toyota Rav4 drove through the intersection and struck a parked squad car. The video came from a body camera on one of the officers, none of whom, thankfully, were sitting in the police car at the time of the collision.

"The driver of the Rav4 told investigators that he was looking down playing the Pokémon Go game when he struck the patrol car," the Police Department said in the video.

When the filming officer approached the Rav4 to ask if the occupants were OK, the driver stepped out of the vehicle and showed the cop his smartphone running Pokémon Go.

"That’s what I get for playing this dumbass game," the unnamed driver said. The occupants of the Rav4 were uninjured.

Hey, at least the light was green when he drove absentmindedly through the intersection — that’s one ticket he avoided, although hitting a patrol car is probably its own special kind of moving violation. Protip: A parked police car is not a PokéStop.
