RATP’s tram network in Île-de-France
Twenty years after its triumphant return to Île-de-France, RATP’s tramway has become a genuine network. It offers many advantages that have made it the preferred means of transport for passengers.
Local transport offering greater mobility
Trams are a unique mode of transport: running at ground level and on their own dedicated routes, they offer the speed and reliability of the metro and the comfort of a bus. They operate in the heart of our cities, providing services that fit closely with the lives and needs of users, and offer them a truly local service.
By providing connections to the metro, RER and bus networks, the tramway enhances the multi-modal coverage of Île-de-France giving greater interconnection and thus more travel opportunities. It also meets the need for transport between suburban areas, giving their inhabitants better service and reduced journey times.
A better quality of life in our cities
The presence of a tramway gives cities a real opportunity to improve the quality of life for their inhabitants. Stations and platforms fit harmoniously into the urban landscape, alongside existing features and with an emphasis placed on creating landscaped areas.
The most environmentally friendly method of transport, tramways help cut air pollution, reduce energy consumption and avoid noise pollution. They frequently create the opportunity to rethink busy road routes, returning them to local use, whilst also creating new mobility options for pedestrians and cyclists.
The construction of a tramway creates an opportunity to speed up the economic development of districts and enhance the employment opportunities for their residents, thanks to the greater attractiveness of the areas served.
