Trams are a unique mode of transport: running at ground level and on their own dedicated routes, they offer the speed and reliability of the metro and the comfort of a bus. By providing connections to the metro, RER and bus networks, the tramway enhances the multi-modal coverage of Île-de-France giving greater interconnection and thus more travel opportunities. It also meets the need for transport between suburban areas, giving their inhabitants better service and reduced journey times.

The presence of a tramway gives cities a real opportunity to improve the quality of life for their inhabitants. Stations and platforms fit harmoniously into the urban landscape, alongside existing features and with an emphasis placed on creating landscaped areas.

With seven lines, the tramway network operated by RATP in Île-de-France will become, in 2016, the largest network in France, with nearly 100km of track, and the third largest in Europe (in terms of passenger traffic).
